The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation has partnered with WaterBear – The College of Music to provide an exciting, new scholarship with aims to nurture new musical talent in Sheffield.
Established in 2019 in memory of Sarah Nulty, The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation honours one of the original founders and directors of Tramlines Festival, who sadly passed away in 2018 at the age of 36. Sarah was a passionate and dedicated event organiser who used Tramlines as a platform to create opportunities for artists across Sheffield, with this mirrored in the foundation’s mission to help more people gain access to music education and provide opportunities for young people to engage with music and the arts.
Their recent partnership with WaterBear College of Music reflects Sarah’s ethos, offering an aspiring artist the chance to access high-quality education and take meaningful steps towards a career in music. The scholarship will provide a life-changing opportunity for one student to study a 3-year BA (Hons) Professional Music degree at WaterBear’s Sheffield campus with the tuition fees covered in full, and applicants will be able to choose from a variety of industry-focused courses to suit their interests, including Performance, Production, Electronic Music, Business, or Songwriting.
WaterBear, which currently have college campuses in Brighton and Sheffield, is renowned for its cutting-edge approach to music education and strong connections to the industry, empowering students to hone their craft while building sustainable careers in the music business. The college and its students have already made waves in the city, significantly impacting the Sheffield Music scene. A recent example of success being hip-hop artist and current WaterBear student Kid Blu3 who’s female empowerment anthem, ‘Natural Queen’, charted at top 3 in the UK Hip Hop charts in November. With Sheffield boasting a rich, musical heritage alongside a wealth of exciting music events that take place throughout the city, students can make use of these local opportunities including playing local gigs and festivals (including Tramlines), and getting involved with the city’s creative community.
Speaking about the partnership, Sarah’s mother, Julie Voisey, said - “We’re excited and honoured to team up with WaterBear to offer this scholarship award. Sarah was incredibly passionate about music and supporting emerging talent, and this scholarship is a wonderful way to carry on that legacy. It gives someone the chance to pursue their passion with hands-on, industry-focussed education, and kick-start their music career.”
