Video game lovers - this one’s for you! Sheffield continues to play a massive role in the past, present and future of video gaming in the UK. The National Videogame Museum calls the city it's home with it's stunning collection and archive. Sumo Digital is a world class games studio that continues to push gaming forward, founded and based in the city.
This weekend though this reputation is added to as Replay Events' Video Game Market, the UK’s biggest and longest-running retro gaming market, is holding its first Sheffield market at Ponds Forge on Sunday 3rd August.
Well, what’s at the market? Visitors can buy a variety of retro games, computers, consoles, handhelds, artwork, apparel, import games, arcade machines, merchandise and more. Anything you can think of to do with gaming is most likely to be on sale at this landmark event.
But that is not all - there will also be a UK first, hands-on demonstration of G’AIM’E, an innovative plug-and-play light gun controller which allows users to enjoy classic Lightgun games series like Time Crisis, Point Blank and Steel Gunner the way they were meant to be played.
Make sure to check out the Bitmap Books Library at the market with show exclusive pricing too. Bitmap Books create and publish the highest quality, intensively rearched and most visually splendid gaming books ever produced. Many of these are proudly unofficial but they have also previously partnered with influential outfits such as SEGA, SNK and Atari to create officially-licensed books that come complete with enhanced access and exclusive assets.
The market runs from 11am to 4pm, with Sheffield Gaming Market anticipating a quieter experience in the afternoon. Advanced entry tickets for the event are now sold out but remaining tickets can be purchased at sheffieldgamingmarket.com, where you can also see a full lineup of the traders in attendance
