In one of the most exciting new gig announcements of the year, The Last Dinner Party have set a date for the 25th of September, for the Octagon Centre in Sheffield.
Hot off the heels of their debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy – which is currently number one in the UK album charts and the highest selling vinyl release since Oasis re-released The Masterplan last November – the breakthrough indie rock group have announced a full UK tour this autumn. The band are currently touring Europe, and will be touring North America in the spring, followed by festival appearances over the summer, including Coachella in the US and Primavera in Portugal.
The buzz around The Last Dinner Party has been off-the-charts – they have been awarded as Rolling Stone UK’s ‘Rising Stars’ of 2023, and they were voted as winners of the BBC Sound of 2024. In 2023, they played at Glastonbury, on the Woodsies Stage. It comes as no surprise that most of their UK shows have been selling out already, with extra shows being added due to popular demand.
Hailing from the live circuit in London, The Last Dinner Party are an indie rock group with an artsy, baroque-pop edge. They have drawn comparisons to David Bowie, Kate Bush, and Roxy Music.
Describing their album, they said: “Ecstasy is a pendulum which swings between the extremes of human emotion, from the ecstasy of passion to the sublimity of pain, and it is this concept which binds our album together. This is an archaeology of ourselves; you can exhume our collective and individual experiences and influences from within its fabric. We exorcised guitars for their solos, laid bare confessions directly from diary pages, and summoned an orchestra to bring our vision to life.”
The tour will end with three shows at London’s Eventim Apollo, their biggest headline shows to date. These are sure to sell out, with the level of hype and acclaim the group have drummed up already. For indie rock fans, this isn’t one to be missed.
The Sheffield show is already sold out – along with most of the other shows on the UK tour – but you can join the waiting list on their website.
Prelude to Ecstasy is available now on Island Records, along with the lead single, ‘Nothing Matters’. Watch them perform ‘Nothing Matters’ on the Late Show here.
