Arctic Monkeys fever has reached a peak this weekend as the biggest band in the world have announced their long-awaited, comeback UK & Irish Tour. In true Monkeys fashion, the tour is their biggest in their homeland to date, seeing Sheffield’s favourite sons play stadiums up and down the country on a whopping 13 dates next summer.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of record-breaking performances at this year’s editions of Reading & Leeds Festival. Unsurprisingly, Arctic Monkeys drew two of the biggest crowds ever witnessed at the historic festival, and it was clearly only a sign of things to come.
The tour will come in support of their 7th studio album release, ‘The Car’. The album will be the band’s first album in 4 years, since 2018’s Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. It’s going to be a beauty if the lead single, ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’, is anything to go by. We were mesmerised on our first listen, and it’s been on repeat ever since. We cannot wait the album's full release on October 21st.
The standout dates for us are, of course, their homecoming shows on June 9th and 10th. The boys from High Green play two of their biggest hometown shows just round the corner at Hillsborough Park, the home of Tramlines Festival. With 60,000 people attending each day of this year’s festival, we can only imagine how packed it will be for Arctic Monkeys.
Support comes in the form of two amazing acts: The Mysterines and The Hives. The Mysterines will doubtless earn countless new fans with their energetic and exciting alternative rock. The Hives are already well established and are bound to get the party started for the Monkeys with their infectious dose of '00s indie rock. The inclusion of both of these stellar bands only makes the day even more exciting.
In the meantime, unfortunately, all we can do is sit and wait. Tickets go on sale at 9am on next Friday, 30th of September, with pre-sale access going live at 9am the day before. It is bound to be an unmissable event for this city, and WE ARE BUZZING!
