Looking to get creative this May? You’ve come to the right place.

The Can’t Draw Club is a touring art club that will hit the road for the first time this May. Led by artist Gabriella Papa, the club’s first ever event will take place right here in Sheffield.

Attendees are able to create freely and Gabriella encourages “expression over accuracy”. With her Can’t Draw Club, she aims to bring people together through creativity.

She said: “Can’t Draw Club is a place where people can create without judgement. We spend so much of our lives trying to achieve perfection, chase deadlines and work on screens with so many people saying ‘I can’ draw but I wish I could’, and yet, as children we never worried about that, we got out the crayons and we scribbled to our hearts content.

“As adults, it’s still important to switch off and connect with that side of ourselves - especially because engaging in something creative has been scientifically proven to lower stress and anxiety! Thinking creatively is also so beneficial in the workplace so it has so many benefits!

The drop-in style workshop is designed to inspire mindfulness in people who claim that they cannot draw, but is perfect for anyone who enjoys creative activities and people of all creative abilities are welcome.

All materials are provided, including a specially curated selection of still life objects for inspiration but Gabriella's workshops have a relaxed atmosphere, so feel free to let your creativity take over.

The event is the perfect way to unwind during Mental Health Week. Organized by the Mental Health Foundation, this year’s weeklong awareness raising campaign is themed around “taking action” and raising awareness for wellbeing through practical activities. With step-by-step guidance and a relaxed atmosphere, the Can’t Draw Club is ideal for reducing stress and anxiety and reaching a “flow” state.

The workshop will run in Merchant’s House on Wednesday 13 May, with the event running through lunchtime, from 1pm to 3pm.

Gabriella said: “I’m most looking forward to seeing people leave feeling more relaxed, happier and hopefully with a new friend!

“We’re all craving connection and community so I’d love to help be a part of contributing to that in Sheffield.

Gabriella has more events coming up as part of Can’t Draw Club across Sheffield throughout May and June. Keep an eye on her socials for more information: @artby_gabriella.
