Replay Events' Video Game Market is the UK’s longest-running retro gaming market. After a successful premiere event in Sheffield last year, the market will make its return this June.
Held at the Ponds Forge Leisure Centre, visitors can buy and sell games, consoles, merchandise, artwork and much more.
The market has traveled the UK, with events held across the country, including markets in London, Glasgow, Cardiff and Birmingham which have collectively received over 300,000 visitors since 2014.
Pete, a local avid gamer who regularly shares his collection of video game memorabilia on Instagram (@pete_fighter_ii) , attended the market last year. He said: “For a first-time event, the size of the room and the amount and variety of sellers was really impressive.
“A stand out moment for me was being one of the first people in the country to play the new G’Aim’E system, as it was the first event to showcase the console to the public. As I’d already backed the console on Kickstarter, it was great to be able to try it early.”
After attracting 2,800 people last year, Replay Events hope that the Sheffield Video Game Market will become their flagship Yorkshire event, especially because of the city’s role in UK video game history.
Andy Brown, Managing Director of Replay Events, said: “We’re very excited to return to Sheffield after last year’s incredible success – this time bigger and better!
“With Sheffield’s gaming heritage, and the wonderful National Video Game Museum in the city too, it was a no-brainer for us to make this our regional flagship event. We can’t wait to be back in Sheffield.”
Not only is Sheffield home to the National Video Game Museum, but some of the world’s best loved games began here. Gremlin Graphics, a prolific video game developer, was based in Sheffield.
Its legacy is continued today by Sumo Digital, a game developer founded in 2003 by Gremlin veterans. Sumo Digital has since evolved into one of Britain's largest game developers.
Tickets for the market start at just £4 for general entry and the event will run from 11am until 4pm. To get your tickets, visit https://www.sheffieldgamingmarket.com/tickets/.
